MENTAL WELLBEING & PERFORMANCE PSYCHOLOGY

The PJA provides emotional and psychological support to help jockeys deal with challenges through their mental wellbeing partner Sporting Chance.

The PJA’s primary mental wellbeing contacts are Marie King and Paul Struthers. Jockeys are welcome to contact them, or any other member of the PJA team, through the PJA office to organise for one of Sporting Chance’s trained counsellors to call the jockey and set them up with the individual support they need. All calls will be treated in strictest confidence.

Alternatively, jockeys can contact the Sporting Chance helpline directly. Jockeys, or a member of their support network can access Sporting Chance services by calling 07780 008877, this is a 24-hour number that is answered 365 days a year. Jockeys can also fill out a contact from at sportingchanceclinic.com. (Sporting Chance answer all calls during normal office hours, out-of-hours calls are collected by a partner-organisation called Health Assured.)

A member of the Sporting Chance counselling team is also available on a weekly basis at each of the IJF’s rehabilitation centres.

In addition, Sporting Chance also run a sport psychology service for professional jockeys for any performance related matters which can be accessed by contacting the helpline number above.

ADDICTION & RECOVERY

The PJA works with Sporting Chance to help provide support and treatment for any jockeys struggling with Substance Abuse.  If you have any concerns, please contact the PJA or call Sporting Chance direct as outlined above.
